Before Michael went to University he studied Archaeology, Geography and Geology at Priestley College, where he then opted to study Geoscience at Keele University, graduating in 2014.
He worked as an engineering geologist from 2015-2017, a job which involved running small ground investigation sites and supervising small drilling rigs. He would also log the soil and rock samples which were acquired.
From 2017 he worked as a geophysical logging engineer carrying out CCTV and geophysical surveys of boreholes up to 2000m deep. He worked on some notable projects such as: High Speed 2 (HS2) , Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Project (HARP), Lower Thames Crossing (LTC), Princess Elizabeth Offshore Windfarm in Belgium, Hammerfell Quarry in Norway, and the expansion of Woodsmith Mine.
Outside of work he tries to keep fit and healthy so is often at the gym and tries to get one jog and one swim in per week (the swim target is usually unsuccessful). He also enjoys travelling, gaming, reading, music, rock climbing and is always scoping out nice restaurants/cafes to go to.
